The Top Novelty Candy Flavors

We can talk about the most common candy flavors all day long, but it’s the novelty flavors that are really the most fun. From jellybeans to gummy candies, novelty flavors in candy products can provide you with something completely unexpected… and while mostly delicious, sometimes just a little bit gross.

While the novelty candy flavor market has always been around, it’s really taken off in the past few years – in part due to a certain book series that featured some particularly strange candy flavors. (Black pepper, grass, or earwax, anyone?) Now anyone can hop on over to their favorite candy shop to find truly out-of-this-world candy flavors – and flavorists in the candy industry have been working overtime to come up with the latest and greatest in novelty candy flavors to keep those buyers on their toes.

Bacon flavored candy products combine the novelty candy flavor craze with the world’s love of this delicious smoked breakfast meat. These days, you can find bacon flavored chocolates, bacon flavored jellybeans, bacon flavored gummy candies, and even bacon flavored… toothpaste? The use of flavor ingredients such as Advanced Biotech’s Natural Guaiacol for smokiness, and Natural Maple Furanone for that little touch of sweetness makes it relatively easy to recreate this meaty flavor in any number of applications.

Another flavor that’s a favorite in part because it really is a bit weird when you think about it, and in part because it’s already become a classic, is buttered popcorn. A flavor like this doesn’t seem like it should taste as great as it does, but with a strong buttery flavor provided by ingredients such as Natural Iso Butyraldehyde (which can also provide some of the grainy corn flavor) it’s a big hit, especially when it comes to jellybean flavors.

It’s pretty amazing what you can find in the candy aisle these days. Some of our other favorites include draft beer flavors, classic cola, spicy chili and chocolate, and even soap. (Well, we’ll leave it up to you to decide whether or not to give that last one a try.) Nevertheless, it’s easy to see that there is plenty of room for creativity when it comes to creating novelty candy flavors.
